Just had a stroll round our allotments. Early spuds with tops blackened. Some hopeful with canes up and runner bean plants already out - all dead. Others have lost Squash plants and courgettes.

Yet within twenty yards a lady is putting out large squash plants! 

I'm on the South Coast and the forecast tonight is down to 34 degrees.

More business for the garden centres, I suppose...

Every year we say that you shouldn't be too keen ... and every year people get lulled into a false sense of security

I really can't understand any early planting this year - there have been sooo many frost/ice/snow warnings in papers, on radio and on tv (and on here  ) and then people moan when their plants die 

Just doesn't make sense to me

Forecast here says no more frosts after tonight for the next 10 days. Even says daytime temps up to 18.
