I shall only be getting 2. But what I would like to know what are the best Brand of feeders to buy ? I would like galvanised ones as I just prefer them but if plastic is better than I shall get those, but I'm confused by all the choice available

some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

Agree 8doubles re three hens.

Re feeders - you need to consider whether they will be under cover or need a cover on them, and whether you will be hanging them up or need them to be freestanding. These things will determine the sort you need to get.

Wet feed goes mouldy very quickly posing a very real hazard to chooks.

For providing water a small bucket I found was better than specially made ones. Much easier to manage when covered in a lump of ice and much harder to be knocked over.  :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

One of the most thrilling moments for me before my hens arrived was an Omlet course.  £20 for a two hour course nearby.  So interesting and so glad I did it. Other soon-to-be hen people to share the excitement with :D

I use plastic which hang so mice can not jump up.
water is currently washing up bowls and they like the pond!!

I have got a galvanised feeder, but with the lid it is harder for chickens but easy for mice.

my run has a solid roof

Stainless steel bowls have the edge over plastic as far as de icing and cleaning go and do not get brittle in cold weather.

I use the plastic egglu feeder, most of the time only the cheeky Robin gets in it when the run is open in the afternoon, and the odd visit from the Rat. Being almost totaly enclosed I have never had problems with wet feed.

Congrats on getting hens enjoy!!! :D

Ive tried lots of different ones,i got fed up with throwing wet feed away, then i seen a 2litre milk carton idea someone uses and i tried it,it works for me no more wasted feed and i put my water in them aswell  :)
Just cut a oblong shape(3 or 4 inch up) out of the side opposite to the handle big enough for them to access the food comfortably and then cut the handle part at the bottom(v shaped the end if it) so  it can be hook onto the run wire,i make them regular so i dont have the problem of cleaning feeders too or algae building up in water ones..cost nothing  :)
