Buying Seeds Now?
« on: November 13, 2015, 15:02 »
Hi

I could do with some Basil seeds to grow in my artificial light setup.  Just a bit of fun really.

I'll also be needing all my tomato pepper etc seeds for next year.  Would it be a mistake to buy those as early as this?

TIA

Adri

Depends from where you get them.

Garden centres would no doubt have old stock that has not been kept in ideal conditions.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Go to a Wyevale and you may still find some buckets with seed going at 50p a pack or even cheaper, they were still around a couple of weeks ago when I popped in

You should be OK with these actually.  The august seed sales mark the end of the year with seed suppliers.  The half price sale is where you go half and half with the supplier on taking the loss and the 50p sell offs are where they credit you for all remaining packets.  The seed stands come down for few weeks and when they go back, its fresh stock that fills them.

Check the dates on the packets though.  Most of the industry works this model, but there are a few that don't  :)

The Range do seeds for £1.99 buy one get one free.  Homebase also have their buy 4, get the cheapest pack free deal still going as well. It might be worth investigating if you just want a few cheap seeds to try.
