Our Aracana laid her first egg today.  She had been in and out of the house for the last couple of days, like she knew it was coming.  I was expecting it to be a bit more greeny blue, but I guess  it was just her first go!

I was going to get some bue egg layers in the spring to go in with our allotment chickens - but we just went up there today to collect eggs (two of them tarted laying this week) and there was a blue egg in there from a third hen!! The four hens up there are bantams from a rescue centre so of mixed parentage! How exciting - all we need is for one to start laying dark maran type egg and we will have full range of colours.

I dont know which of the hens up there is laying which egg yet - but they is a grey speckly one that has blue tinted ear lobes with some ear fluff and some feathering on the legs that it may be from. Not sure. Two of them have very dark legs and brown beaks so i thought they may lay darker eggs but will have to wait and see.
