Lice Egg Cases
« on: July 26, 2015, 17:39 »
Hello all,

One of my chickens had some lice.  I have treated with powder and can't see anything moving anymore (but I am continuing to treat in case of further hachings of the lice eggs).

I have read the excellent article on here

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=5250.msg61244#msg61244

but still have a question.

Should I trim the feathers round here rear end - the ones with the eggs/egg cases - or should I leave them to drop off naturally?

Many thanks

Hitman

The powder will not kill the louse eggs Hitman, just the hatched lice.  The usual advice is to pluck the feathers out, but I once had a bad lice infestation on my birds and couldn't face doing this to my poor chickens.

I was advised on here to try Frontline and that worked really well  :)  Most vets will pescribe it if you explain the problem to them.

I have dustbath in their run and add louse powder to this,so they self dust. They do get checked as well.
