I have grown Exell cabbage, might fit the bill and it is a compact variety. We were very happy with the Samantha savoy which I grew after a recommendation here and have had good results with Igloo cauliflower at 10-12 inch spacing.

Hi Cadalot.

I use SFG in my salads bed as it encourages me to use repeat sowing. I previously tried it for everything in my home raised beds when I grew at home (before the tree roots grew up into the beds) but found it more useful for salads. 

I grow different varieties of salad leaves, land cress, spring onions, annual herbs (coriander and basil mainly), marigolds, lambs lettuce and pak choi. I plant one planting of dwarf French beans, baby beets and Japanese turnips as mini veg at the end of the season.

I only use canes to separate the blocks.

I get a lot of positive comments and it is very productive at the height of summer.

Thanks Snowdrops. I was very poorly for a while but clung onto my plots and now am recovered and back on the plot with a vengeance!  Lovely to see familiar names again!

My family prefer 'green' to 'white' cabbage too. I find that January King cabbages harvested before they form a heart make great greens. I grow a few over the summer (sown around now) and more over winter (sown August) for use as spring cabbage. I plant them failrly close together too (9-12" each way).
