Has anyone had any success with stopping slugs eating potatoes? If so, how?

Almost my whole crop has been affected this year.

I have looked on the forum to see if there is already a subject on this but haven't found it!

I put down a few slug pellets early this year and planted charlotte. Very few were affected by slugs. In another area I was later putting down the pellets and a lot were holey.

I find that potatoes left in the ground after about mid-August invariably get slug damage, especially if it is wet.

My solution is to grow second earlies and lift in good time. As long as the tops are removed 2 weeks before lifting to allow the skins to set they keep right through the Winter. Tops are usually removed by then because of blight anyway.
