Poultry shield for cleaning out guinea pigs?!
« on: October 02, 2014, 17:23 »
Ok, so a random question - haven't been on the forum for donkeys years, soz!

Anyone know if there's any problem using Poultry shield to clean out our guinea pigs?! They are living in an old unoccupied hen house  :D  perfect for them http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Cottage_Hen_House_2.html (they have a modified ramp as they're not so good at ladders lol!  ;)

(They also sleep in an owl nesting box within the hen house which keeps them nice & cosy, just bought some wool loft insulation to wrap it up in for when it starts to get colder!)

Sorry, didn't know if this should go in the Hen House or the Non-feathered pets forum!!  :)

Safest to contact the makers and ask them :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

You ask an interesting question.

We have hens and also offer holiday boarding for small animals ie rabbits, guinea pigs etc. We use a spray called  Clean'n'spray   from one of the big pet retailers for the hutches because the animals are in contact with the hutch for longer, whereas hens will spend their day out of the coup. I don't know if redmites would take up residence with small animals. I would be inclined to use Poultry shield for the purpose for which it is intended and use a product that is suitable for your hutches.  It is worth bearing in mind how PS works as that may have an impact on other livestock.
we also rescue rabbits and guinea pigs, grow own veg
