Should I get electric fencing for my chickens
« on: August 21, 2014, 08:56 »
Hi guys,

I've got 30 chickens in my chicken pen, I was thinking of getting a tall electric fencing net to help keep predators out

I was thinking something like this - http://www.farmcareuk.com/Products/Tall-Poultry-Netting/extra-tall-poultry-net-in-green

Does anyone have experience in using electric fencing? Is it easy to install and maintain?

I have used electric fencing to very good effect. My poultry was kept a quarter of a mile outside the village where foxes etc could do their deeds in utmost privacy and not be disturbed. Once you understand how it works it is easily maintained. The biggest problem for me was keeping longer grass from shorting it out. If run from a battery you need to ensure it is kept charged.  :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
