we have a small block of sweetcorn on the allotment which is trashed! the stems are broken about a foot from the ground on almost all of the plants.  We grew sweetcorn last year (which was our first year on the allotment) and they grew very well.  No particular damage to other plants surrounding the sweetcorn and it has not been especially windy.  Sweetcorn on neighbouring plots has not been affected like this.  Very mysterious and quite depressing.  Would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to the cause of this

Foxes have taken out some of mine and I now have a barrier around them.

Another plotholder told me he has put up a fence in an attempt to stop badgers.  I said I didn't think much would stop a badger.  He sort of smirked and said maybe not, but maybe they would go for the easier option and take the ones which weren't protected at all.  i.e. mine.  It's a bit depressing really.

They decimated all the sweetcorn we all had last year - varmints!
