shed broken into
« on: December 15, 2009, 16:52 »
not been down my plot for a couple of weeks due to rain etc so decided this morning nice hard frost take the dog for a walk to the plot and see whats happening..........
garlic and onions are growing nicely, got upto my shed and someone has ripped the lock off :( however nothing has been taken? got a petrol mower in there and wheel barrow and everything is still there. i am hoping it was just some bored kids.

You got off easy, Chili. Suggest you not plan to ever leave anything valuable there as return visits are the norm.

Most unpleasent lucywill. As others have suggested I'd re-move anything of value - especially that petrol mower....  :( amc

the only thing i leave in there is a couple of old chairs and some slug pellets, its more for sheltering in than storage, we are lucky enough to live just 2 minutes walk from our allotments so we keep everything at home and just load it into the wheelbarrow each time we go.

we've had two arson attacks on sheds at our site recently. I live in dread every time I go to the plot. So far, so good  :(

If you report it to the police, they will do walk pasts.
It's a new pledge by them to increase police presence after a crime has been reported.
Just how true it is i don't know, but it must be worth a phone call.
Doing something is surely better than doing nothing!

yeah maybe i will report it to the old bill, i live in a flat so have no where else for the petrol mower. my mrs seems to think it coud be tramps etc looking for some shelter, the shed was left on the plot and is really past its sell by date however it is dry inside, am only 10 minutes away from my plot so when i feel abit better i make take a recce down there one night. our plots run parallel to a farmers field which has a walkway along the edge, this farmer illegally removed the hedges and has been told to put them back which to date he has not done.

oh its also snowing here now :)

Our PCSO always asks us to report anything.

Their routes etc are planned partly on statistics, and if there are none for the site then they can't justify focusing resources on it.  Whereas if everyone reports it, the councillors and police managers will respond to those statistics and create action plans etc.

At the very least, it can act as a preventative tactic even if there's limited hope of catching the wotsits who already committed the crime.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We are lucky in that our our allotments are well off the beaten track. That said my predecessor had problems with the local "yoof" using his polytunnel as a makeshift youthclub.
