Potatoes
« on: June 17, 2014, 17:52 »
Hi all

I've just harvested my first lot of new potatoes ever and was wondering if it is normal for the original seed potato to be a mushy mess? The rest of the potatoes and plant look fine.

Thanks

Yes it is normal (poor thing, it deserves a bit more sympathy having used up all its resources to start growing the plant which produced all those offspring! )
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Thanks Jay, being a novice, it scared me but I am grateful that they produced these lovely new potatoes.

normal, especially with news.

most of the main seeds will have rotted away to nothing by time you harvest as they take longer to crop, especially if you leave them in the ground longer rather than storing them.
