I have loads of grass seedlings coming up in my borders. Should I keep trying to hoe them off or use the shreddings from the spring prunings to cover and stop them growing? I know I may have some nitrogen deficiency later on, but not as much as is commonly believed will happen.

You would be better digging out the grass, hoeing the tops off will make them stronger just like regular mowing of your lawn.

I was thinking of hoeing them out by their roots, but have just mowed my lawns and put the clippings on top of the grass.
