The best dry mulch
« on: September 04, 2011, 13:31 »
I have fallen in love with my Verbena bonariensis and want to try and help it survive the winter. The advise is to mulch around the base of the plant with a deep, dry mulch. What is best to use?

I would have thought that bark would make a good dry mulch, as long as it didn't upset the pH levels for your plant. Here is the RHS advice on mulches and mulching:

Cheers argyllie.

Bye the bye I have just emptied my first air-pot which had Vivaldi's in. Potatoes all perfect! I dont know if the yield was high as I dont have anything to compare it with but I am very happy!

verbena bonariensis likes to keep its feet dry. We use gravel round ours - no water sits on it then - just drains through.
