Merryweather plum/damson
« on: May 13, 2014, 08:55 »
Why hasn't my Merryweather flowered? Planted it last year. This year, it's put new growth on and plenty of foliage, but no flowers. It's had a bit of leaf curl, but not enough to have any serious effect I would have thought.

Is it a very young tree? My apple didn't flower either and I was told it was because it was still a toddler.

Well, it's taller than me, but that's not saying a lot. It's not really young, because its been pruned before, probably more than once.

Got the same problem.

Our Merryweather has been in 10years and I can count on one hand the number of damsons we've had off it in that time.

Just out of interest ART, do you know where your tree came from?

You mention pruning - have you done any and, if so, when / how?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Not done any pruning, it didn't need any, it was a classic "goblet" shape and ver tidy.

It was from a local warehouse/cash n carry which does a lot of gardening gear. No idea where the source from.

It's just a baby! Give it a chance and I'm sure it will get into the swing of things in a year or two.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
