Kohl rabi giving me some hassle...
« on: April 28, 2014, 21:25 »
I've been sowing Kohl Rabi in modules to get them going earlier than most, and nearly all of them have shrivelled in the greenhouse! They're not in particularly hot, or sunny conditions!

Is this the norm with these chaps please?

I wouldn't keep them indoors, they are hardy little things.

Thanks Surbie, I guessed that this was probably the reason, but couldn't work out why lettuce thrives in the greenhouse, but these chaps didn't!

I find all brassicas have problems when germinated in the greenhouse, it doesn't seem to take much to burn them. Sow outside or in an open coldframe if you want to give them a bit of protection.

Many thanks HG!

New batch going in outside as we speak!

I start mine off in an open coldframe. Keeps the wind off, giving them a bit of protection and slows down any drying of the soil.
