Certain failure for chillies?

so confused!!!!

just noticed a certain 'hairiness' on the stems of some of my peppers....

could it be...?  nah!

Call me a numpty if you like but ... I going to go ahead and say anything which you can strike from a cutting if buried will grow roots.  For what it's worth I've always buried them up to the cotyledons but not past, perhaps you might want to experiment with burying depth whilst your at it

That's how far up they root, to the seed leaves.
