Call me a numpty if you like but ... I going to go ahead and say anything which you can strike from a cutting if buried will grow roots.  For what it's worth I've always buried them up to the cotyledons but not past, perhaps you might want to experiment with burying depth whilst your at it

I'll join the fun.  Next potting up I'll select a couple of plants and bury.  See if they strike root.  Might try a rocoto too as they definitely have hairier stems like toms.

That's how far up they root, to the seed leaves.
