Call me a numpty if you like but ... I going to go ahead and say anything which you can strike from a cutting if buried will grow roots.  ::) For what it's worth I've always buried them up to the cotyledons but not past, perhaps you might want to experiment with burying depth whilst your at it  ::)

I'll join the fun.  Next potting up I'll select a couple of plants and bury.  See if they strike root.  Might try a rocoto too as they definitely have hairier stems like toms.

That's how far up they root, to the seed leaves.
