Either ebay or maybe your allotment neighbours will have some you can have? (The ones that aren't pinching your wood stores!)

Check that it's Bocking 14, which is the sterile strain. The other one self-seeds everywhere.

Dont buy it - you will probably find your plot neighbours will have some and simply dig some roots out and plant them. The sterile Bocking 14 only grows from root cutting and has a purple tubular flower.

See Johns article here.. http://www.allotment-garden.org/comfrey/index.php

Was on the plot today and saw two men talking up top so I walked up tp where they were nosing at the plots as I went by, and asked them about various things one of them being Comfrey. One of the men went into his polytunnel and returned with a bottle of dark stuff which was Comfrey concentrate that he had made from his comfrey plants. He said I could have some of the plants when they are grown a bit. Sorted :D

Thats great if i need more I know where to go.

Thank you all

There you go, there are some other fantastic folk on your site too, not just wood thieves (thick as two short planks!). Hope you get to enjoy your allotment to the full.

My comfrey seems to have disappeared for the winter - all the leafs have gone, when do they start to go bonkers and start growing again?

Thank you Snoop. I think we just have to take things with a pinch of salt and not let them bother us. We are so looking forward to planning everything out and growing stuff now.  :D

Thanks I will keep a look out, I'm assuming I can't take root cuttings and start them off until then as well?

I'm planning on growing more comfrey this year, still getting stuff out of my comfrey pipe (especially when the top cap blows off) and what comes out is going into my comfrey water butt ready for feeding this year.

Comfrey is such a tough plant, all you need to do is take a small division of the main plant and plant it up somewhere else. No need to mollycoddle it in a pot as it does best going straight into the soil. Given its so mild, you can probably get away with doing it now. I divided up some sorrel and perp spinach the other week and they are showing signs of growth!

I agree with ghost, dig up a bit of root and plant it wherever you need it.  I bought my comfrey plant when we lived in Kent in the 1980's.  Took a bit to Essex with me, and bought a bit of root up here with me 11 years ago and its still going strong.   :D :D
