Non Horticultural Vermiculite - Can we use it?
« on: January 31, 2014, 13:26 »
Hi

Local builders merchant sells vermiculite for sealing round chimney flues etc.

Is it the same as horticultural vermiculite?  And can we use it?

TIA

If you try to re-use old attic vermiculite, you might have a problem with asbestos.

But new vermiculite is carefully mined so it doesn't contain asbestos, and is actually the same product that garden centres use. It is not as fully expanded as garden V. but will do. Just try not to inhale any dust that blows out when pouring, it's irritating more than anything.
