Hi,

I have a lot of roots that look like this (see pic attached) throughout the soil in my plot. Are they tree roots? Will it matter if I just leave them there now that they're no longer attached to a live root or should I pick as much of it out as I can?

I'm assuming the tree responsible has either died or been chopped down - if the stump remains are you sure it is completely dead?

I'd try to remove them from at least the top foot of soil, and deeper than that if they're near the surface and you are planning on growing root crops like carrots or parsnips in the soil.

I'd remove them if possible.  It's hard to dig spuds from around the roots.
