How Much Root??
« on: April 15, 2012, 15:21 »
I mentioned in an earlier thread about a monster hydrangea that was in the way of my new vegetable bed, at the time we had a family tug of war on it after much much diggin to get rid of the thing but over the last 2 days I have been digging the area over ready for the new veg bed, today I have stumbled across some deep roots from the old monster and have just spenmt the last hour digging the one below out!

 8) 8) Glad that is now done, bad news though there are at least another 2 like that

My word
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'd just cut them as low as I could reach and leave the rest to rot in situ

Well done you for doing a 'proper job'  :)

I sympathise  :)

This conifer needed removing from the front garden of the house I bought 2 years ago ...

The main trunk is on the right with the leaves on, with a 'layered' branch which went under the soil and came up vertically a few feet away:

The layered root removed:

The trunk of the main shrub removed:

One of the smaller roots to be lopped - you can just see another bigger one above the loppers:

It took quite a few trips to the tip...

Yorkie I can now see it could have been an awful lot worst, crikey I bet that was fun! I would still be digging away now lol :)

Well I found another 5 like that what a nightmare and I have just stumbled across what seems to be an old tree stump, luckily it is well and truly dead so the side roots once exposed are just snapping away and pulling out of the soil but the actual main bottom of the trunk is set in there like concrete! I have give up for this evening but will get the bu!!er out tomorrow one way or another :) I am also going to dig a good proportion of the soil away from that section just in case any poison was used to see the trunk off.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh I am well and truly kkkknackered :) Off for a bath and then Top Gear oh the joys of Sunday evening.

I must confess.

My neighbour got the worst of it out.  And my dad did the rest!
