Holly Hocks & Lupins

We have had a lovely display of Holly Hocks & Lupins,in a raised bed,now the weather is changing and they are dying off,my question is what do I do with them,ie if  cut them down will they come back next year????.
(not much of a flower gardener) I grow veg,,,advice please.

Holyhocks are in the main considered to be biennial. That is they spend the first year making root and leaf, the second year flowering and then die.

There are annual and perennial varieties of Lupin. Did you grow them or plant them yourself? I suspect without a seed packet or plant label it'll be hard to know. Most varieties of Lupin I've come across are perennial.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Lupins do tend to be perennial sorts as DD suggests, and cutting them back to about six inches gives them plenty of protection for the rootball in even very cold areas. Slugs love them though so watch out come the Spring or they will get munched.

Hi, I bought them off the internet, (plug plants). Kept them in the greenhouse over winter, then put them out in the spring,don't now what variety they are,I will cut them back to 6inch,and take it from there,thanks.
