The picallilli recipe that I faithfully follow is Rick Steins. Never fails and keeps for a long time.

Sue have you a recipe that you could share please,I still have loads of runners.

Snowy I'm sure I found it on the recipes pages here, it's been really popular  :D

Here it is:

Ingredients:

2 lbs runner beans
4 or 5 onions
1 ½ lbs demerara sugar
1 ½ tablespoons turmeric powder
1 ½ tablespoons english mustard powder
1 ½ tablespoons cornflour
1 ½ pints malt vinegar
Method:

Peal onions and cut  small.
Slice beans and boil together with onions in salted water until both are tender.
Strain and drain well then cut up small or put through mincer.
Add sugar and 1 ¼ pints vinegar and boil for 15 mins.
Mix turmeric, mustard and cornflour with the remaining vinegar add to the bean & onions
Boil for another 15mins.
Allow to cool and put in jars.

That's very similar to the recipe I use for picallili. One more lot of that to go

This morning was more bottled tomato based curry cooking sauce. Got quite a kick to it as I added an extra couple of our blazing hot orange chillies to it this time  :D :D

And fruit in the oven 'doing' in their bottles: apple & quince, and pears

Last night Mr Sunny was over the moon at the thought we would have more 'home grown and produced' stuff, and be spending far less money as a result  :D

Hurray!!!!!

I too have just made my first piccalilli, not a Delia, but very nice. Actually, this is also the first time i've ever had piccalilli. Don't know how it compares to shop bought but i like it. :

Have made some pickled green tomatoes today and the green tomato chutney is on the stove. Later on going to pick a load of the rose hips that are all over the hedges here so I can make a load of rose hip syrup that I love.

Lucky you, Kate, on those rosehips. I bought 4 rose plants specifically for their large hips and a late frost hit all the flowers.... except one!  :(  Not a lot you can do with one rosehip.

Most chutneys/pickles are left to mature for a few months before eating to improve their flavour, so if there are any left  you will be able to compare flavours.

Have had quince juice stashed in the fridge for a few days.  I had to deal with windfalls, so stewed and strained them ready for jelly.

Finally got around to making it today - such a pretty colour and skimmed carefully while I was making it, so is glinting jewel like in the jars.  So pleased with it and there was a bit left over that didn't fit in the jars, so got a sneaky preview to taste.  Wow  8)

Shredded some more and froze them as I found a recipe for quince vodka I want to try.

6 cups coarsely grated quince
2 cups caster sugar
3 cinnamon sticks
20 cloves
1L vodka

Put everything in a 2L jar and top up with water.  Put somewhere sunny for 2 weeks and shake the jar daily.  Store another 2 weeks, then strain and bottle.

I'm thinking this will be a great winterval gift and one I can sip in the depths of winter when the log fire is lit and I'm snuggled on the sofa for the evening  ;)  :)

quince vodka sounds great but it's the "put somewhere sunny for two weeks" that's a little hopeful. House now reeks of vinegar as i'm making a pear and apple chutney. Did a lovely quince jam today with cardamon and rose water. so yummy.
