raising the strawberry bed
« on: August 12, 2013, 13:40 »
The level of soil has sunk in the raised bed that the strawberry plants are in.  I would like to put a few barrow of soil improver to bring the level up to the top of the edging boards.  Would you think it necessary to take out the plants? or if I just piled the soil on top now while they are going dormant, will they grow through in the spring?  I don't want to lose them as they have a few more productive years left in them.

Think you'll probably have to take them out and replant - burying the crowns is a definite no-no with strawbs.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

This is an ideal time to position runners in pots of good compost,  Wait untill well rooted then cut from parent plant.

Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Just cut runners off last week! :( I suppose I can always leave topping up till next year when I was going to start some new plants anyway.
