Cabbages, kale etc to overwinter
« on: August 04, 2013, 09:06 »
How late can cabbages, kale and the like be sown, to overwinter? I have a few seedlings, sowed these around three weeks ago - was this too late?

I sowed mine at the end of last week. Given everything is late this year I am hoping I might get a bit of a return from them. The packets did say they could be sown Jul / August though
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

It all depends.............What did the packets say? What varieties were they?

No posh packets, so no comprehensive instructions. Cavolo Nero kale, January king and Durham early were the cabbages

the Cavolo and the Durham Early will be fine but the January King should have been sown back in May  :(

Thanks, that's great. Already have some big jan kings growing, so their loss won't be much of a blow. My challenge now is identifying the seedlings, which I didn't label!!!
