coffee grounds as fertiliser
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:26 »
Recently read something about this and have started to pour the dregs of the cafetiere onto various plants including a lemon tree and a banana (both in pots)

Just thought I'd get a second opinion from you experts on here. Is it a good idea? and are there any plants that will benefit particularly or any that wouldn't like it?

Thanks!

In pots I'd recommend working the grounds into the compost a little - otherwise they may have a tendency to sit there and grow mouldy. This is based on personal experience! The plants didn't suffer though.

I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem in beds.

I have worked quite a bit into the ground here and nothing's really looking at me in disgust, apart from the slugs  ;)
It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how i keep from going under......

I think they will be quite acidic.  Would blueberries like a mulch of this?

I have a blueberry which could probably do with some acidification so I'll maybe start chucking some on there
