I love Leeks.

I'm moving to a new house in the next month. Are there any varieties of Leek that can be planted this late in the year?

Not really, the ones I planted in Feb & March are still only like chives, but can at least grow till the winter - IMO sowing now just wouldn't give them enough time

That's a shame. It'll have to wait til next year then.

What sort of veggies can be sown from Summer onwards?

you can buy lots of module plants from the garden centre for planting now as well

Our local Home base had leeks in modules (no variety mentioned) at the weekend which could be planted out in the next couple of weeks.

Was going to say the same, several GC's around here had leeks in pots last weekend, so buy a couple of pots and keep them or eve put in something a bit bigger.

Mine are still fairly small, grass blade like, but are at least starting to look more substantial and stand up. Another 3 years and they may amount to something worthwhile.

This year has been a bit crazy so almost anything could happen.

A garden centre near us sells Musselborough leeks at £2 per 20, dry roots, reasonably sized ,wrapped in newspaper between August and September. They also sell dry rooted resilient brassicas such as January King, curly kale etc. They're a god send if your crop has failed for some reason, and can give you late Winter cropping and into the Spring.

I bought them once as I got my allotment at the end of the growing season. Not perfect but good enough, considering there were no other options

Yes too late now for fully grown leeks

BUT

sow a packet anyhow in a deep tray or a small bed to eat as leek thinnings in several months. You will get the flavour of leeks and a few stir fried or added to a salad gives a marvellous flavour.

 I always sow a pack or two about now just for that purpose, and let some grow on further when they will be thicker but still a baby veg....much prized in restaurants!!
