Strawberry runners
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:04 »
Hi, a few months ago I planted a few strawberries in amongst weed prevention fabric. Now, runners have started to spread from these plants. Do these runners form other plants, and if so, is there going to be an indication on the runner so that I can cut a hole in the fabric for the plant to take root?

Yes, small plants will start to form along the 'nodes' on the runner.  You can either cut a hole and peg them down, or put a small pot underneath them and peg them into that.  :)

make sure they are properly rooted before you cut the runner!  :)

If the strawberrie's are  one year old i would cut the runner's off and let the plant's bulk up. I only take runner's in the 2nd year.

Thanks for that piece of advice. I will do that. I think that I am being a bit naughty anyway letting them fruit this year :) My raspberries all rotted away so at least I will have some fruit :)
