Strawberry runners - again
« on: July 06, 2010, 17:17 »
Sorry - I'm sure this must have been asked in the past but I'm hoping to go out this evening to pot up some runners and a quick answer would be soooo helpful.

Does it matter which of the runners you select to pot up for new plants?
By that I mean on the runners there are usually lots of little mini plants coming along - should you only select the 1st one and cut off the remaining plants?

Thanks for your help.....as always very much appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much, they are very easy to propagate.  In fact last year I left my strawberries in the ground at the lotty and when I came to weed and prepare ground for this year, I was inundated with runners, so just detatched them from the mums and potted them up and I think nearly all of them took!  I think most of my friends and family now have strawberries in pots and hanging baskets this year.  The show goes on!

Hi Sue
Thanks for reply and sorry it took so long to read it but haven't been near computer for a while as too busy in garden.

As it happens fate took a hand as no time to pot up runners and as you say they are happily rooting themselves all over the place!

Sometimes I worry too much ;-)

Thanks again.
