Bent Leeks?
« on: June 01, 2013, 10:43 »
I hadn't checked my leeks in a while and just had a look at them now. They're starting to bend...any ideas as to why?

They are kept on the top shelf of a 4 tier poly mini greenhouse...are they just getting to big?

I hope they'll be ok as we love leeks.

If these were mine I think I'd be planting them out or at least giving them a feed.

I'm sure they will be fine, are you able to plant them now, I take it you know about dibbing a hole & dropping them in then filling with water. The deeper you dibb them in the more white stem you will get, although you do need a big fork to dig them back out. If not a feed would not hurt. They are probably bending over because there was no room for them to stay upright.

With that many in that size pot and in a mini greenhouse I would say the need more water to stand up. If you don't have room to plant out yet you can transplant the whole lot into the soil and allow to grow on as a block, plus as the others have said a feed wouldn't go amis.

It is too warm in the g/h even in this cool weather. Put them outside and plant in the ground when they are the thickness of a pencil.
