we are pretty new aswell but must admit had no bother with celery the last two years we have grown self-blanching and while the plants were smallish my son loved them however my soil seems a bit heavy for leeks they just won't get going after transplanting. My best advice is to keep the celery well watered.

Are the leeks in modules or loose as a bunch that looks like spring onions?

The leeks are in modules about 4 in each.

For the leeks, you just 'dib' a nice deep hole in the ground. An old spade handle etc is a good size for this. Drop the leek deep down into the hole (one leek to a hole). Some people trim the roots before planting, some don't. I did both this year and noticed no difference whatsoever! Then do NOT fill the hole back in (I would like to know why - must try and find out!). Water well. The holes infill themselves over time.
Celery, I can't help with I am afraid. I have grown it from seed, but it was tough and woody and not very nice. I could probably tell you what not to do! :)

The leeks are in modules about 4 in each.
Then you'll have to seperate the little leeks to plant as ann says, if you want full size leeks. If you don't mind smaller ones then make a wider hole and put the module block at the bottom.
I think the reason not to fill the holes, is that it gives the leek room to expand inside the dibbed hole as it grows. It may slowly silt up but won't be compacted as it would if you had planted normally.

Keep the leeks in the modules until they are pencil thick before following the advice given on planting in holes.

Plant the celery in a block so that they help to blanch each other. About 9 inch spacing each way is about right.

Put plenty of organic matter in the bed. As it will only be a compact area it is really worth going to town on this so that it holds moisture.

Then water, water and water again all season through.

They should be ready about early September. They are not frost hardy so you will need to eat them by, say, mid October.

I have planted leeks both ways, dibbing them in using a 'hole' and watering, and also planting in the conventional way. TBH I didn't notice much difference in final size or the amount of grit that got between the leaves. Big ones are easier to dib in, but any tiny ones can be planted.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Thank you for all the advice!

I have planted them on the plot and will see what happens. My main concern is the wood pigeons were watching me no doubt planning somthing.

I did not net as the foxes love rolling on the netted areas  So pigeons or foxes as Harry Hill would say... .FIGHT.........
