Moles, Voles, Rats or Mice
« on: May 21, 2013, 18:13 »
Can anybody help...? I have signs of various little critters burrowing around my plot, and I just don't know what they are or how to deal with them.

I'm fairly sure that one culprit is a mole, due to the odd mole hill I've seen around.

More annoyingly is something which is creating tunnel under the soil, especially where I've planted plants, and there are entrance holes dotted around the place measuring about 3 inches...

Any clues on culprits and treatment...?!

There's a recent thread on moles here:

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks Yorkie - is there any way of telling which of them is making the tunnels?

Sounds like voles.

If the soil in the heaps is very fine and gorgeous, moles are most likely the culprits. Lumpier soil = voles.

The tunnelling sounds like voles too, as do the holes.

To the best of my knowledge, rats do not throw up heaps at all.

All your problems are caused by moles ,when you plant veg you water them in , these damp areas attract worms which the moles feed on and tunnel under your plants to feed  .They also come out of the ground mainly at night ,so that explains the holes .
