Logic says it would be OK.

Not sure I'd have the guts to do so, though!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

is it safe to compost marestail and bindweed as long as no roots go in?

I would not put those two anywhere near my compost, shoots or roots, far too risky in my opinion. Burn or drowning or the local tip. Having spent the last 3 years digging out bindweed roots I am not taking any chances as I am now nearly on top of it.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

I wouldn't compost anything weeds unless I chop off the green leaves, they are ok. I compost everything from kitchen thats green, grass, green growth, leaves. There is so much to compost, at least you know its weed free.
Kind Regards
Bill
