Help - potato blight
« on: May 19, 2013, 19:05 »
Until three days ago my potatoes seemed to be doing great - nice green leaves about 15 to 20cm high so far.  However, the leaves are now a mixture of yellow, brown and black - they are all rotting, which I guess means Ive got potato blight.  I will dig them up this week and get rid of them, but wondered if I can plant anything else in this raised bed right now?  What can go in which wont be affected by the blight and which can grow his time of year?  Gutted about the blight :-(

Thanks a lot!

Thankyou, Ive looked at the other thread and my leaves do look very similar to the picture that has been posted.  I live in the north of england and the weather has been very mixed lately, but I was told that there was a frost on wednesday night.  So maybe it is frost rather than blight!

What should I do?  Should I snip off all the damaged leaves and wait to see if new green ones grow or whether it all continues to rot, in which case I guess i might have blight?

It will not have been blight.

I'd leave the foliage on, as is advised in the other thread, and your spuds should recover in due course.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
