Signed it.

I'd love to be an overpaid eurocrat, shed loads of money, make up barmy rules, support loads of duff research & pay companies to genetically modify everything we eat.

Old stuff was good enough & generally never killed anyone, what will GM maize do to human health in 50 years, I know force everyone to eat it, wait 50 years & say "oh, well, never mind", if it all goes wrong.

Sorry, nature knows best, not some Belgium guy in a suit.

Totally agree on GM products.

Well said. :)
I want my food as nature intended - no man-made trans fats, no lab-made veggies and if I can't buy that then I want to be able to produce it myself.

I think it's time to started saving our own seed, where it's possible.
Some stuff is dead easy to save, so there's no reason not to  ;)

I always thought saving your own was no a good idea as you get poor fruits. I save my own pumpkin seeds from the year befores plants.  what else should I be saving, obviously strawberries just do there own thing. Lol

Most things can be saved, so long as they are not F1 hybrids.

Onions, cabbage, kale's, beans, toms, squash (they can really hybridize though) pumpkin x courgette for example.

Strawberries via runners, comfrey, horseradish rhubarb via runners, roots , division.

Saves money, keeps varieties alive, if you want pure varieties of seeds, do not grow say 2 types of chillies, that way they can't cross pollinate or grow the 2 varieties well apart with no possibility of insects pollinating.

Peas are easy to save as are French beans because they are self fertile. Runner beans can cross - pollinate, but I still find it's worth seed-saving.

Toms and peppers are easy, squash can easily cross so you have to be careful they don't !

some advice here

Really liked reading that Spottymint - nice one!

I know we don't ever get political here, as we're grown-ups, but what on earth does an allotment holder have to do when a huge, bloated body of politicians in some faraway town decides to instruct us what to grow, and how we should do it!

Sorry, but I'll carry on as I always have done, and take no notice of their rules and regulations. My heart is in gardening and growing things which feed my family.

I don't want all my taxes spent on wavering, unexplained gummint edicts when gardening is concerned, so I've also just bought four tubes of Bordeaux mixture, as that's on the endangered list as well.

But we never get political here do we, well, that would never do...;0)

If there are enough drinks at this party - some bright spark will soon think of a name

Mind you,  it'll probably be useless when you wake up in the morning

I have partaken of Ouzo in the sunshine (very necessary WHEN the sun shines ;) ) and am now partaking of a vin blanc from the Languedoc region of France, but that has nothing to do with it!

Actually, I've just woken up...

How about 'The Veg Preservation Society'!

Simple; and well understood by all Michael Caine observers, and also remembering Noel Coward as well...:0]

Gwan, you know it makes sense!

New Post? Or shall we stay here?
