would i be right in thinking that i need to gradually harden them off? does this mean moving them into my polytunnel during the day and back indoors at night??

It depends on the temperature in you polytunnel (I can't see your location, so I do not know whereabouts in the country your are to be more help there -- perhaps you could add this in to your profile please?)

The temperature needs to be at least 12 degC or they will sulk

The other issue is that if they are in very bright sunlight the leaves may scorch, so they will need some shade for a while until they adjust

I make the same mistake every single year.... this year I 100% won't do it.. hopefully :D

I move them straight to the greenhouse.. and 2hrs later, scorched and wilted and then dead :(
