Seed casings still attached???
« on: April 15, 2013, 14:56 »
Just curious - i germinated my seeds (peppers/tomatoes/chillis) in airing cupboard successfully.
Moved them to windowsill straightaway. What was interesting was that in majority of cases the seed case was still attached to seedlings - cotyledons had not emerged. Searched internet and followed the advice to moisten seedcase with drop of water and leave and sure enough within a day or so the seedling leaves emerged.
Just curious as to why seed cases were still attached??? ???

If moistening them worked then they had presumably dried out before they could open and fall off. ;)

Sometimes it's because the atmosphere is dry, sometimes it's because they aren't sown deep enough and sometimes....................just because  ::)

I don't know why, but my butter nut squash seedlings are doing the same thing.  Right now I have two with the seed casing clamped tight around them and they are up an inch!
