Look after them. They are one of your best friends around the vegetables. They'll eat the slugs.

They'll also eat other bugs like aphids, flies, etc, so a gardener's best friend.

Try not to relocate the pond too far away this year as they're very oriented to the place they were born. I had a toad lay eggs in a small dry hollow by my back door, so I carefully moved the cluster to a better spot where they wouldn't get trampled. Normally toads lay eggs in water so this had me puzzled.

Next year, same time, I found loads of eggs in the very same dry hollow

You will hear nothing but good things about them ... and its all true!

Look after the little guys, they'll do a lot of work for you.

The only problem with frogs/toads is you won't ever have enough of them,oh & they might make you jump now & again when you come across them & they jump out of the way

thats exellent news.

i was only going to move it 15 ft, as it's where i want to lay a new lawn. it will be nearer the veggy patch so should save there little legs. lol

they've already scared the c**p out of me when i was clearing rubble from my now new veggy patch. they also seemed to play chicken with the rotavator for some reason.

all i need to do now is try and train them eat pigeons and i'll be happy. lol

thanks for the info.

word of warning, i put pond on my plot and had frogs/toads. Then i put goldfish in, could,nt understand why when i had tadpoles they disappeared. Still dont get spawn. Someone told me the fish will eat the tadpoles. If any one knows if this is correct, answers please. I will gladly give fish away to get my frogs/toads back.

I'd shift the fish as they don't eat slugs!  :D

Extremely good advice. Frogs and toads hibernate under logs and stones in order to survive the cold of winter. They tend to be lethargic in cold weather so take ages to find a new hiding place.

*Normally, (*is there such a thing?), at this time of year many frogs have begun to appear in ponds to spawn but this depends on light levels and temperatures.

Toads? Lucky thing! In many parts they are scarce and, I believe, on the endangered list so a protected species. Their eggs are easily recognised as toads lay strings of eggs rather than blobs as in frog spawn style.

Whatever you do aim to keep and treasure them... they are an asset to any garden & all gardeners.
