I saw ginger on sale in wilkos this afternoon. Really fancy the idea of having fresh ginger available for stir fry's and curries but how easy is it to grow? And will it produce much? Just wondering whether to give it a miss this year for next, or to go for it and give it a bash. Any advice on growing it please.

If you go into the search facility, and do an advanced search (GYO forum only) for ginger, there are loads of threads which might get you started.

I'll be trying it myself this year as I found some ginger root that didn't get put away and now I have several sprouts that I'll divide into rhizome sections and pot up. Should be interesting. It's a tropical plant that doesn't like direct sun or waterlogging so I think I'll keep it in a large pot in a semi-shady area of my garden.

I have tried twice with bits of ginger root from supermarkets, but though they sprouted, they did not grow much and died. I think they like a lot of warm. Hope you have more success. I would like to know how you get on.
