Strawberries - when to plant

Hoping to have a patch of strawbeery plants next summer.

When is the best time to plant them ?

They seem to be on sale now but is it too cold/wet ?

the general rule for strawbs is to plant in aug/sept or perpetuals in spring

however, as runners are best planted in oct / nov i don't think it really matters

i tend to overwinter mine in pots and plant out in spring if that helps

It will be perfectly OK to plant them now, just as much as in the spring.

It gets them out of way, spring is busy.

mine went in October. they're still growing :!: see my strawberry bed. I sort of think that weather lore and received knowledge needs to be revised somewhat in the light of the warmer winters experienced over the last decade and a half. Right now, at 5pm it's 12C, and loads of stuff grows at this temp.

i just been given some small strawberry plants from another plot holder and planted them . i think they are his this years runners . so i think you can plant them now . fingers crossed any way .
