Finally got around to planting my garlic which has been building up a nice little root system in multi cell trays in the greenhouse since last month. Did a couple of tests with my new PH testing kit and my onion bed came out at 6.5. Purrfect.  :)

A first sowing of potatoes at home - in 12 inch diameter and depth plastic drainage offcuts, 3 seed poatoes to each. They're planted in horse manure and growbag soil and I have sheets of polycarbonate to pull over them so long as its frosty. Once they're sprouting over the tops I can fleece them. Always feels satisfying to get the first ones started!

Been working in the garden today. I am revamping the bottom end of the garden, so up came some flags and block paving. As we are levelling the area, several wheelbarrow loads of topsoil were transported to the front garden to fill up the beds. Need a rest now and a cuppa.

I've not done ANYTHING for weeks   I've been laid up with shingles  :(  We did manage to go away for half term though.  I need to get cracking with digging over some beds.  I'm beginning to panic

Sowed some peas (Hurst Greenshaft) and broad beans (Masterpiece) in pots and modular trays, in the greenhouse.

Dug drainage dips at the low end of the plot and got very muddy indeed.   ::)

Laid a weed membrane path and wood chip mulched it, between the raspberries and the black currants. Finished mulching around them (rasps and blacks) to complete the weed cover on their beds. Staked around my newly discovered rhubarb trying to poke thru, to stop the kids running over it. Its along the path edge and looks like waste ground still as not tackled that bit yet. Planned where the other fruits are to go and which bit to tackle next.

I did indeedy.
Fully stocked up with various plant feeds. :)

Came home - garden today:
Trimmed the box hedging at the front plus clearing up.

Dug over the front bed in the back garden and weeded.

Transplanted some daff bulbs I bought last year and couldn't be bothered to put in the garden

Pruned the evil lovely Buddleia to it's very main roots, also pruned the trachelospermum jasminoides.

Filled the car with green waste to take to the tip tomorrow as I missed it today waiting in for my Greenfingers parcel.

Watered seedlings in the greenhouse.

Fed the roses, the clematis, the rhodo and the magnolia.

A good days work.
Lottie tomorrow ;)

Yesterday I finally got round to sowing some Ailsa Craig onion seeds (a bit late) and also Musselburgh leek seeds (a bit early but I made a mistake and used a 3-year old packet of seeds instead of the new packet I'd bought but managed to forget about - everything crossed!)

Today I planted my Mikor and Golden Globe shallot sets saved from last year's crop - first real opportunity given the difficult conditions here recently, and hard to believe that in most previous years they would have been in at least a week or so already (surely means that a brilliant summer is on the cards.   ;))
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
