50 shades of green
« on: July 10, 2012, 09:41 »
As I sat on mine today, I counted runner beans, chilli peppers, sweet peppers, sweet corn, soy beans, Komatsuna, okra, daikon, cucumbers, Goya, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, pumpkins, watermelons, pak choi, chard, mizuna, cosmos, a rose bush, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a mystery interloper, which appears to be some kind of fruit tree, deposited by either bird or it was in the compost ! Then there is rosemary, basil, mint of four flavors, thyme, cardamom, sage, and onion and leeks that have been there, slowly growing since September last year, and shiso.

The man next to me has beans, and peanuts.

I have been reading the way the 'summer' has been most unkind to England's farms and allotments. I do hope that the winter is kinder to your brassicas.

I have pak choi and tatsoi. Loads of cabbages!  I have the things coming out of my ears  :D
Mizuna, mibuna, komatsuna, mispoona all grow like weeds here and they're not fussy about the weather thank goodness.  I use these as intercroppers and they're always rewarding unfussy veggies  :)

They need good grub, plenty of water and a net over them.  I have two cabbage patches next to each other. One was covered with Enviromesh and the other not. The ones with the mesh are leaps and bounds better than the other.  Both are now netted  :)

Yes, cabbage whites and the birds nibble bits. Which rather surprised me. They love a bit of brassica. I need nets and more nets :(

That's a fabulous list  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
