Brown Specks on Potatoes
« on: September 19, 2011, 14:01 »
Haven't been on the forum for ages.  Have a question.  Grown Kestrel potatoes in planters again this year, and have now lifted them.  They are very clean and no marks on the outside, but some of them (not all) have light brown specks on the inside.  They are not rotting and don't smell.  Obviously I don't see them until they are cooked and cut into.  Can anyone tell me what this is and are they still okay to eat?

Thanks.

Search for "Spraing".   It may be that.     Cheers,    Tony.

Spraing is caused by an infection an dis quite uncommon, so I wondered if it might be internal rust?

Here is a picture, which might help with ID

Could be just irregular watering?

That can cause 'internal rust' Salmo, so we are on the same track here  :)

Thanks everyone.  It doesn't look like Spraing in the picture, so I think it must be internal rust.  I must admit my watering was irregular this year, so I will have to address that for next year.
