I grew just 5 pink fir potatos, trail pack from Wilkinsons.  I grew a full crop of Maxine and the Pink Fir crop did not have one potato with slug or wireworm damage yet the Maxine was virtually all with some damage or scab.  Have other people found this to be the case?

none of mine suffered from slug and wireworms this year which surprised me after last year. However my pink fir gave the best yeild but tended to suffer more from scab than the others - I put this down to the soil as I grews these at home while my others were on the allotment.

Maybe slugs and wireworms don't realise they are potatos.  My wife is convinced they are not potatos due to their shape.

Our PFA are very 'clean' looking potatoes, with very little slug damage (as in three tubers out of around 25-30 kg  :D ) and no scab.

Last year when we still had significant a wireworm problem there were a small number damaged, whereas other spuds (like King Eddies) were holed badly

Others like Cara were sluggd and a bit scabby, in same bed as PFA  :D :D :D

So yes, they look like a good bet, and they gave a decent yield too  :D

I find there's not much left once you've peeled them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

We must have a fatter sort than you DD --- had them this evening in a casserole and they were fine, and of course did not fall apart  ;)

I only grew PFA once.  Those which didn't disintegrate in the soil didn't taste any different to my palate from the others, so they were too much faff (and more expensive) to justify doing again.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Blimey, you must have got a different sub-sort to us, Yorkie: same price as others, and stay together really well too (even when peeled  ;))

Why peel them?  Skins are lovely and the goodness is just beneath it. :)

Depends --- love them in casseroles unpeeled as they saok up the flavour better 'exposed' imho.

Potato salad... unpeeled  :D
