Slug resistance in potatoes
« on: July 14, 2011, 10:44 »
I have three varieties planted this year, Charlotte, Desiree and Cara.  I have sampled all of them, being the products of the few left-over tubers which I put in containers, plus one plant from each bed of Charlotte and Desiree.  The Charlottes and Cara (both being grown for the first time) show no sign of slug damage, but several of the Desiree (an old favourite) are tunnelled.  I had been told that Desiree were resistant to slug damage but while they may be 'resistant', they do not seem to be immune from it.  I lost a good proportion of my crop last year.

Given that the two 'C's remain undamaged or only lightly so, I will use them again, but does anyone know of a maincrop I could plant next year in place of the Desiree and which has better slug resistance?
