Just a quickie, My coop came with a divider for the nest box that divided it into 2 sections, do hens prefer separate laying arrears or do they not bother?  I did remove it and 2 of the girls are laying communally but the 3rd girl still isn't laying.  could this be putting her off?  should I put the divider back?

I would put it back.  They don't usually lay at the same time and they all seem to like the same box, piling on top of each other but sometimes I have found an egg in each box and on the floor.  Strange things, chickens

Most chickens like a bit of privacy when laying, so I would put the divider back   You may find that they stil prefer one nest box over the other, but I like to give them a choice

I put it back last night and today no eggs at all.

Ours will always lay in the same nest box as their friends. Don't knnow why, but have never had them in different! They wil switch box every few days too!  Strange things

We only have one chicken laying and a coop with 6 nest boxes - and she seems to pick a different nest box each day!!

Well I took it out again as they were not happy, and today 2 eggs, they must like the communal look.  The divider has gone on the wood pile.
