First sign of asparagus
« on: March 18, 2011, 21:27 »
I went to the plot this evening and as I was walking around I spotted some asparagus starting to poke through.
Just thought I'd let everyone know.

We have not bothered to reply to this because we are all jealous. A few sunny days and you may get some more.

That is unless the -6 degrees forecast in rural areas tonight catches it.

I'm actually hoping mine are not though yet!

I've yet to get to that bit of the plot in my tidying up and like to lightly hoe the top of the bed to get rid of the annual weeds that pop up over winter.

I'd better make that the next job!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oooh.
No sign of mine yet.  I did weed that bit last week though (mind you it's about the only bit of the plot that I have weeded).
Only put them in last year, so I can only take one spear per plant this year.  I'm regretting I only planted 24.  :( I shall savour every single one.  Well, I'd like to but I'll have to fight my 8 yr old, asparagus is her favourite.

But I'm looking forward to next year :D
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....

Spotted the first little spear poking out of the ground the other day when I was weeding the bed. :D This will be the first year I've been able to harvest any so I'm really looking forward to that first one!

Not expecting to see mine for a while yet, but thought I'd just pop out and check!

Harrumph!  :tongue2:  :nowink:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Doesn't say as such on his profile, but I'll grass him up and say he lives in the same tropical climate as Aidy, called Blackpool.

I've waited 3 years for these, grown from seed, so you'll have to excuse the gloating :D

Planted mine out last year, not picking any this year, but last year some Pheasants or somesuch bit the tops off, and as I want them to build up their strength I've thrown the Brassica's Debris Netting over them for now ...
