Its a mystery!
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:19 »
Hi
Can anyone solve this mystery for me?
I got my first hens in early August of which 2 were Welsummers, about 4-5 days after they arrived we were sitting outside in the sun enjoying our new girls and from the nestbox came an awful scratching and squawking, after about 20 mins one Welsummer emerged and sure enough there was an egg. So, we thought thats her starting to lay. We were told they were all "this years birds" and they have been wormed, frontlined etc but that egg has proved to be the one and only one every layed by either Welsummer. The fact that she layed one must mean she was old enough to be laying so why has she not layed again?
Puzzled! ???

you may have to wait until Feb/March or could she be laying elsewhere?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Hi
She is definitely not laying away as they are housed in a coop in a stable and over the cold spells only a few of them left the stable and she was not one of them.  :nowink:

Hi
Just an update!!!
I have noticed over the past couple of days my Welsummer showing an interest in the nest boxes and noticed her comb was definitely getting much redder, anyhow, she produced an egg today  :)
Just hope its not a one off!!
