Chickens + Pastry?
« on: January 18, 2011, 17:40 »

Been on a bit of a baking 'bender' last night and we have a few small off-cuts/trimmings of pastry (uncooked) that weren't worth doing anything with.

I was wondering, can you give them to chooks, with it only being flour, butter and a bit of lard??

Only a tiny bit as a treat.  It's fat too high in fat for them to have much.

If you have spare pastry add some grated cheese, mix and bake.

These can be safely fed to humans.

Mine enjoyed a very small piece of lemon meringue pie ( My eldest fed it to them after finding it in the fridge - it was my youngest's and he was keeping it until he was less full! ) You can imagine!  Anyway, youngest got the promise of first egg, seeing as his pie went into it!

They did enjoy the cooked pastry.

Once in a while and only a little but I'd bake it and try to make something with it for humans in preference.

Thanks all for the advice  ;)

Better to be safe than sorry and asking first.  :)

Thanks again
